Campaign Spotlight: YAZOO, “Have a YAZOO with Yourself”

YAZOO’s new campaign, “Have a YAZOO with Yourself” reframes everyday mishaps into moments of humour and positivity. Running across out‑of‑home, audio, and digital, the campaign takes five funny scenarios — like crashing in your own garage or lightning strikes at music festivals — and turns them into bold, eye-catching, tongue‑in‑cheek moments that center YAZOO.
POP took the lead for production of the campaign, keeping the craft consistent alongside Havas London. To go deeper on how it came together, we spoke with Lindsay Birch, Producer at POP UK in Manchester, who works across multiple projects in the UK and was at the forefront of this campaign since day one. For the past five years, Lindsay has brought stills, motion, and post‑production projects to life, managing complex builds predominantly in pharma and more recently expanding into broader commercial campaigns, including YAZOO.
What was your role in this campaign?
My role was Line Producer for Prose on Pixels. I worked directly with the Havas London Agency producer Liberty Willison.
How did POP’s expertise and our team make a difference in this campaign?
We worked closely with our Production Manager, Guy Fuhrer, and all the crew to maximise the budget, which enabled us to stretch the creative executions on just a two-day shoot.
We prioritised production design to ensure that each scenario had its own individual look and feel as well as a few funny easter eggs added in for good measure.
We also used AI in some circumstances to enhance the creative vision. A seagull carrying away a dog, for example, would have been tricky to capture on camera!

How does shooting a stills-only campaign differ from a campaign with video assets?
Shooting stills only — no video — means that the pressure and prioritization of the shoot is heavily weighted to the preparatory work. All elements need to be set ready to capture on camera in one singular moment. Everything needs to work — unlike with video, there’s no wiggle room to make sure every element is visible and legible.
Working with changeable practical aspects, like seagulls and rain machines, also means you can’t re-do the shoot and get the exact same image again if needed. Compared to a video shoot, that meant the timing of our schedule favored upfront setting and prep. Stills only focuses time on the craft of one individual moment — as we aim to get the perfect shot each time.

The campaign features humorous scenarios in a variety of different locations. How did you maintain consistency in brand voice and visuals across these various locations?
The ideation of that came down to the craft in the creative. But production-wise, we had multiple location scouts to ensure that the consistency in location, setting, and cast carried through. The humorous elements were also found organically throughout the pre-production phase. For example, when the creatives saw the giant penguin prop, we knew it needed to be in the car/garage scenario.

What was the most challenging part of this campaign? And the most rewarding?
The most challenging part was narrowing down the creative executions, as there were so many good ones! Location scouting was also tricky as they had to not only work aesthetically but also logistically as we were pressed for time with only two days for shooting. The most rewarding is seeing the final images out in the wild!
What lesson(s) will you take from this project into future projects?
It takes a lot of water to muddy a field in summer! But seriously, for this campaign, it was back to basics: It’s always important to check any logo positioning for the final composition in-camera. This particular campaign had a specific logo situation that required us to do even more rigorous quality checks. A large YAZOO logo that was placed over the hero’s head in each still, and so we had to constantly check this positioning throughout the shoot to ensure that no details of set dressing would be lost or obscured by the logo. With this attention to detail, it resulted in some really rich visuals.
